VC University LIVE - SMU

Startup@BerkeleyLaw, NVCA, and Venture Forward launched VC University LIVE in 2019, with the goal of democratizing access to education on venture finance in startup ecosystems across the country. The program is a three-day certificate program on venture finance, held in partnership with universities in emerging VC ecosystems across the country. 

This year, SMU will host VC University LIVE from November 12-14, 2020 as a virtual event, through the leadership of the Robert B. Rowling Center for Business Law & Leadership at the SMU Dedman School of Law and the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship at the SMU Cox School of Business in Dallas, Texas.

Timeline

VC University LIVE will take place as a virtual program from November 12-14, 2020.

General registration is now open, and registration will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note however that a maximum of 5 people may attend as representatives of any one firm or organization. We will close registration automatically once we hit capacity.

  • Aug. 17 – Scholarship application opens
  • Aug. 28 – Deadline to apply for a scholarship
  • Sept. 18 – Scholarship applicants notified of decision
  • Sept. 21 – General registration opens
  • Nov. 12 – 14 – VC University LIVE takes place

Tuition & Scholarships

Tuition for VC University LIVE – SMU is $1,200 per participant. (General registration will open on September 21, 2020. 

Please note: Partial registrations are not offered for individual days of the program.

If you currently work for an employer related to the venture capital field, we strongly recommend that you ask your company to subsidize the cost of tuition; this is a comprehensive certificate program that provides concrete professional development value. Please feel free to use this template to help you draft your request letter.

Our partner Venture Forward is proud to offer scholarships to cover the cost of tuition for VC University to aspiring VC’s from underrepresented backgrounds. 

The deadline to apply for the scholarship has now passed. 

UC Berkeley alumni, SMU alumni, and NVCA members are eligible for a 20% discount on their tuition.
